NSSE 2023 Experiments Announced: Customizable Modules & Non-Responder Short Survey

Factors Influencing the Likelihood to Participate in Undergraduate Research
Several researchers have found that student participation in undergraduate research is positively related to student learning outcomes, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and intercultural effectiveness. The study aims to examine what factors influence student participation in undergraduate research in three STEM fields.
Measuring Achievement Goal Orientation Across Student Subgroups
This study used NSSE data to investigate achievement goal orientation in honors and general education undergraduate students, exploring the factor structure of a commonly used assessment and looking at ability level differences using two types of statistical analyses.
Considering Critical Quantitative Research

The NSSE Honors Education Consortium: How Did It Start? What Have We Learned?
The NSSE Honors Education Consortium began as a partnership with the National Collegiate Honors Council. Consortium items address motivation, academic exploration and risk-taking, tolerance of ambiguity, curiosity, personal and career goals, and physical and mental well-being, with the intention of making comparisons between honors and non-honors students at participating institutions.

Graduating During a Pandemic: Seniors’ Views About Their Career & Workforce Preparation
During a pandemic-disrupted year, seniors’ career planning and preparations for entering the workforce were significantly altered. Students’ open-ended comments from NSSE’s new Career and Workforce Preparation (CWP) Topical Module provide a glimpse of what students valued in their exposure to college and university career planning resources and what institutions can do better to help them gain work-related skills.
Achievement Goal Orientation and Student Engagement: Expected and Unexpected Patterns
Earlier this year, the journal Motivation and Emotion published an article focusing on achievement goal orientation as a predictor of student engagement. This paper was authored by NSSE research scientist Angie Miller, along with former doctoral students Kyle Fassett and Dajanae Palmer, and used experimental item data from the 2015 NSSE administration.
