Administering BCSSE

Using BCSSE Dashboards

All the information need to administer the survey, download your data, and view/download results are done through the BCSSE dashboards. For new users, after you register for BCSSE, you receive an email to activate your dashboard account. If your school is already registered, buy you need to access to the dashboards, then complete the our Contact Request Form. If approved, you will receive an email activate your dashboard account.

How BCSSE is Administered

BCSSE targets three distinct groups of entering students: 1) first-year students who are recent high school graduates, 2) transfer students, and 3) older students who have no prior experience in higher education. BCSSE is administered locally and is available on paper, online, or both (mixed mode) for summer/fall administration. Institutions generally administer BCSSE during orientation or welcome week, or in the first two weeks of the fall term—depending on academic calendar and assessment needs. An online-only winter administration is also available.

Administration begins

Summer and early fall

For paper-mode institutions, surveys are typically shipped to you approximately one month prior to your first administration date. For Web mode institutions, the web survey will be "live" on the exact date you indicated during the registration process.

Advising Reports

BCSSE reports advising reports and data are available within hours of submission for web administrations. For paper administration, advising reports and data are available typically within 3 weeks after surveys are received.

Data & Institutional Reports

Surveys and web data are returned to BCSSE for processing. Institutional Reports and data files are available for download from the BCSSE Dashboards at anytime after the start of administration. However, they are not final until after the survey administration closes.

Optional winter administration

The winter administration is available only to institutions that participated during the prior summer and early fall. The winter administration is only available as an online survey. Institutions receive individual student advising reports, as well as the institution reports and a final data file. BCSSE winter administration is available from early December and until early February.
