How BCSSE is Administered
BCSSE targets three distinct groups of entering students: 1) first-year students who are recent high school graduates, 2) transfer students, and 3) older students who have no prior experience in higher education. BCSSE is administered locally and is available online for summer/fall administration. Institutions generally administer BCSSE during orientation or welcome week, or in the first two weeks of the fall term—depending on academic calendar and assessment needs. An online-only winter administration is also available.
Institutions also have the option to append up to 3 student-specific grouping variables that will be included with each student response. You can use these grouping variables to add major, advisor, first generation status, and other student-specific information to each student response. Email bcsse@iu.edu for more details.
Administering BCSSE involves active collaboration between BCSSE staff and institutional participants. We will be glad to discuss with you any questions you have about your BCSSE administration. Email us at: bcsse@iu.edu
