The Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE) measures faculty and instructor expectations for undergraduate student engagement in educational practices that are empirically linked with learning and development. FSSE complements the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), which is administered to undergraduate students. Although most participating institutions use FSSE and NSSE concurrently, FSSE can be administered on its own. FSSE targets faculty members and other instructional staff who teach at least one undergraduate course in the current academic year. For FSSE’s purposes, “faculty” refers to all those who teach undergraduate courses. You can now register for NSSE or register for FSSE!

Take a quick tour of our new registration form and FSSE Interface in the Getting Started with FSSE 2022 video.
FSSE registration is now open!Description of the video:
Hey everybody, this is Allison BrckaLorenz. I'm the Project Manager for FSSE and I just wanted to give a quick video tutorial about some changes that we have and ways to get you started on your FSSE 2022 administration. So normally we login through the same interface that you use to register for NSSE, if you're a regular NSSE and FSSE participant, you'll know what I'm talking about. But FSSE is actually going to start with a new interface this year and I'll tell you why in a second. But unfortunately, we've got to get you into the system before we can get your registration approved. So the first thing you're gonna do for registering for FSSE is to start a contact approval form. And this is pretty straightforward, but it just allows us to get your contact information into our new database, which I'll show you all the details of that in a moment. The first thing that you'll do when you start the approval process is to find your institution and our list of institutions that your institution should be there if you're a regular FSSE participant. But if it's not there, just send us an email and we can pretty easily get it added for you. After you find your institution, will ask you for contact information. If you're a school that we've worked with in the past, will be able to pre-load some of that information for you. Of course, if that's not you, you can allow that or you can edit that information. But if it is you, that's great. That means we already knew who you were coming in. But submit your contact information after you submit that, you will get a confirmation email from us that we got your request. And we'll take a look at that, just make sure everything is okay database wise. And then once we approve that, you'll get an actual e-mail about registering for FSSE. So we recommend registering by October 1st so that you have plenty of time to make your customization choices. All the registration is open for longer than that. But once we get that contact info into our database, you'll get two additional e-mails from us. One of them is the actual registration form, email. And so in that, we're going to ask for contact information for three people now the contact that you just filled out for us will pre-fill into that comp campus project manager spot. So you won't need to retype that. Of course, if you intended yourself to be the secondary contact, you'll have to change that because we do need to contacts. So you are likely going to be the campus project manager or the CPM, the secondary contact we refer to as the CAC, will need information for that person as well. We have a third place that you can enter your billing contact, which is optional. If you do not give us a billing contact, we will send the invoice to the CPM. Otherwise, we'll send it to the billing contact. We don't have any other kind of contact with the billing contact except to send that invoice. You'll additionally give us an estimated number of faculty that you'll want us to survey. And this isn't something we hold you to. I mean, the actual number you have a survey can definitely change, but we do ask for an estimate just so that we can give you an estimate of the cost. Once you give us that information, you can look through our terms of participation. You can agree to a purchase patient, agree that your two contacts are up to date and that we're able to contact them. And by registering that your institution will recharged and non-refundable $300 registration fee. Now that's often waived for people that are also participating in NSSE. But you can see details about that on our pricing page. So once you see that, you'll see your estimated cost. And then you're going to get a second email actually that's auto-generated from our new dashboard interface system. This is going to give you the login information to get into the Qualtrics platform. So that's the new interface that we have. It's going to be through Qualtrics. You and the CPM. Cpm and the CAC will both get this automated e-mail with a username and a temporary password. You can go in, change that password, but that will give both of you access to our dashboard. So the opening dashboard that you'll have so far is going to be pretty blank because we haven't gotten that far into the process. But so far what you'll see on your dashboard is a list of resources for your fast the administration, that estimated cost, which is based on your estimated faculty count. Then you'll see the contact information that you gave us in the registration form. Everything else at this point is going to be pretty blank. There isn't going to be much to see on that dashboard. But eventually, customization for your fast, the administration will start October 4th. So on October 4th you will get an email to start that customization process. You'll get a link where you can select topical modules if you'd like to one or two, you can participate in Consortium items if applicable, if your institution is part of a consortium, how you'll be able to select your mailing schedule, the signatory name and title for your invitation messages, as well as upload your population file. And we do have some changes to the population file this year. Basically, it's, it's actually going to be simpler than it was before. You'll send us the firstName or prefix, depending on how you want us to refer to people in their messages, their last name, of course, their email address. And then that option on group variable, which is a variable of your choosing that you can include in the population file that will return back to you. Common group variables are things like different campuses or different colleges or departments, things like that, ways that you can disaggregate your faculty. And this customization process is going to close January 21st. Okay? So once you fill out customization options, then your dashboard becomes a little bit more relevant. So in addition to what you had before, you're now going to be able to see the item sets that you chose, your recruitment schedule. The signatory that you chose, you can view your population file. And as long as customization is open through that January 21st, you can actually make changes to any of this by just going to this link. So if you decide you want a different module or change a signatory or any of these things that you want to change. You can do that here at this link. And eventually once your administration starts, little results, tabs will show up on the side. And this is what I mean by that. Now, why did we go to all this trouble to start a new system and get you all into a new interface. And it's really this end part that's the most exciting. So this new platform is going to allow you to download your raw data and see results from your administration immediately. So there won't be any more waiting for your data or reports. It's all going to be here and you can see it as it gets collected. So you'll have these results dashboards. There's a little example of one here. You can filter by all sorts of faculty demographics, of course characteristics you can really dig in and see different types of faculty and how they're helping to engage your students. There will be information about response rates, message delivery, things about your administration that will help make sure everything's on track. And we're also going to provide you with aggregate dashboards that will allow for benchmarking and comparison of your faculty to similar types of faculty at institution types of your choosing. So we thought all of this immediate data and results was going to be worth trying out a new platform. We tried to make it as simple and straightforward as possible, but as always, contact us if you have any questions. We'd be happy to do our best to make sure you have a successful FSSE administration.
