NSSE 2013 Update

Information about how NSSE was updated in 2013.

NSSE changes in 2024 include modified end-of-survey open-text prompts, and additional updates to Greek-letter participation and gender identity items (see 2023 changes). We also substantially updated the Inclusiveness & Engagement With Cultural Diversity, Civic Engagement, Senior Transition, HIP Quality, and Information Literacy modules.

In 2023, questionnaire changes included modified demographic items to better represent equity and inclusiveness, a request for ZIP code, and an updated item on Greek-letter organizations. We also updated the Career and Workforce Preparation and Experiences With Online Learning modules.

Review all changes since 2014 below.

After the updated NSSE was launched in 2013, the survey content has mostly undergone incremental changes, with occasional larger edits to demographic items and Topical Modules. This document details such changes made to the updated NSSE and to the Topical Modules starting in 2014—the first year after the major update.

When is the next major update? No further updates are planned at this time, and future updates will be announced several years prior to launch.
