The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) is pleased to release the first of three data-informed stories in Engagement Insights—Survey Findings on the Quality of Undergraduate Education, an annual series detailing important and timely NSSE findings. This first release, Rebounding Engagement: Has Higher Education Returned to "Normal"?, presents patterns of student engagement and time allocations, focusing on trends from 2019 to 2022 to explore shifts during the pandemic. As restrictions were rolled back over the 2021-22 academic year, did campus life recover? We also use data from the Experiences in Online Learning Topical Module to look at effective course structure across institutional types and student identities.
Additional stories to be released in the coming weeks will feature ongoing analysis of the quality of high-impact practices, as well as timely and important topics in higher education such as mental well-being, affordability issues, and transferable skill development. Stay tuned for those!
