High-impact practices have been linked to retention and other important outcomes. It also appears that the more HIPs students do, the greater their sense of belonging. Though the majority of students feel valued by the institution, are comfortable being themselves, and feel like part of the community, students who participate in HIPs are more likely to hold such opinions, and more so if they had participated in more than one HIP (Figure 6). Seniors who had done two or more HIPs were more likely to express strong agreement regarding sense of belonging than those who had not participated in HIPs, by a margin of 7 to 13 percentage points.
